Mavericks Must Embrace ‘Backs Against The Wall’ Mentality For Game Six

The Dallas Mavericks avoided elimination at the hands of their bitter in-state rivals the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday and they will once again try to survive elimination in San Antonio and force a game seven back on their home court.

Caron Butler played inspired basketball in game five after being criticized for his poor performances in the Mavs loses in games three and four. Butler contributed a playoff career high 35 points on 12 for 24 shooting from the field as Dallas defeated San Antonio by 18 points.

The Mavericks have several reasons to be confident that they can win not only game six but also force game seven and win the series.

Dallas is riding a wave of momentum into game six after a sound victory over the Spurs, and the Mavericks finally got production from players other than Dirk Nowitzki. Not only did Caron Butler score 35 but four other Mavs were also in double figures.

The Spurs big three has struggled throughout the series and if the Mavs can continue to play aggresive team defense, than there is no reason to believe that they can't come back from the 3-1 they found themselves in after four games a ...
