The Original Six teams have always been the foundation of hockey. Even though in recent years not all of them have been on the the same level skill-wise, they still have the heritage and legends that make hockey so great. With Montreal and Toronto's amazing cup victories from back in the day, Detroit's recent cup wins in the late 90's and from two years ago, or the perennial "ever-so-close" Rangers, Bruins and Blackhawks, the Original Six make up some of hockey's greatest moments.
It's been more than 30 years since the last time two of the Original Six teams met each other in the Stanley Cup Finals, back in 1978-79 when the Montreal Canadiens beat the New York Rangers in five games to win their fourth cup in a row.
Considering the teams that are still playing in this year's playoffs, the chances of an Original six match-up in the finals are very high. The momentum that both Montreal and Boston have, looking to close out their respective series tonight, could be enough to put them both through to the next round.
