Last Tuesday night, Indiana Pacers fans worldwide—all four or five of them—nervously watched the NBA Draft Lottery, hoping their beloved team would land one of the top two picks in the 2010 draft.
Kentucky's John Wall and Ohio State's Evan Turner, the likely first two picks in June, would both fit in perfectly with the Pacers. Indiana desperately needs a superstar who can lead them out of the NBA's cobwebby basement.
The Pacers drew the 10th pick, meaning fans will likely be subjected to another long season next year. Indiana hasn't made the playoffs since 2006. It may be some time before they do so again.
So, who's to blame for all this losing in Indy? One person and one person only.
Pacers GM Larry Bird.
Okay, Donnie Walsh had something to do with it, as well. But, he made several great transactions over the years, like drafting Reggie Miller. And, he's skillfully cleared cap space in New York.
So, back to Bird.
