It's all quiet on the Kovalchuk front this Sunday. However, Mark Everson of the New York Post has done some speculation. If the NHL were to accept the Devils' latest offer (rumored to be $100M/15 years), the Devils would have to shed $3M in cap space to fit Ilya's contract.

Therefore, trades will have to be made. Here are some players that could be traded to accommodate Kovalchuk's contract—

Marc Savard Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe is reporting that the league might reject Boston Bruin's center Marc Savard's contract.  With the whole Kovalchuk fiasco, there has been speculation that the league will investigate similar contracts. The league has put itself in a hole with this whole situation. They can't just pretend that these contracts don't exist (Hossa, Luongo, Savard, etc.). If they are doing this to the Devils, they should do it to every team.
