Houston Rockets: Are They a Contender After Yao’s Return?

The Houston Rockets are very, VERY happy to get their main man back this season. Yao Ming, the All-Star center, is back from his year hiatus of rehabilitating from his serious injury.

The Rockets will have to limit him to around 24 minutes per game, but he can still be effective. Now, with Yao back and all of the pieces the Rockets have, the question is, are the Houston Rockets a championship contender?

First off, the Rockets have a great roster. They have a up and coming point guard in Aaron Brooks, an awesome scorer in Kevin Martin, a great defensive specialist who can hit the three in Shane Battier and of course, their giant center.

We all know talent alone cannot win championships. These Rockets missed the playoffs last year, and another good question is if Yao, playing limited minutes, is going to be effective in winning games?

I believe with Trevor Ariza shipped off, and the bench depth the Rockets have, they can be a contender. It all depends on how well their pieces mesh together and if the scoring load can be shared.
