Utah Jazz’s Resiliency Carrying Them While They’re Yet to Click

In his 22 year tenure with the Utah Jazz, Jerry Sloan has led the franchise to 19 postseason trips, including two Finals appearances. Sloan’s teams never won a title. He was also never named the “Coach of the Year”. It’s too early to inquire about the first but the latter is being taken care of since this season, more than ever. Utah’s early success reflects Sloan’s presence and steady leadership.

The ’flex offense’ Sloan has installed and ran for the last two decades is borderline un-guardable when ran to perfection. For the first time in a while, Utah’s roster is not fully equipped to run the scheme. The departures of Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver have left a hole in two key departments for the execution of the system. Replacements Al Jefferson and Gordon Hayward don’t possess similar skill sets.
