Sean Avery's reputation in the NHL is about as far from squeaky clean as you can get.
He's widely despised by just about every team the league, and now, it appears he's got a new enemy, the Edmonton Oilers.
Avery's New York Rangers already had the game well in hand with a 5-2 lead, but that didn't stop the controversial hockey player from throwing a cheap shot at Edmonton's Ladislav Smid.
Avery and Smid nearly got into an altercation earlier in the game, but the two players apparently "agreed" to wait until the next shift to come to blows.
Well, hockey's bad boy took it upon himself to hit Smid with an unexpected punch the second he saw the opportunity to get the upper hand.
Even once the fight was settled, Avery was involved in another scuffle as he skated toward the penalty box.
As a result of the brawl, a total of 124 penalty minutes were handed out and four players were ejected.
Avery didn't comment on the incident after the game.
