New York Islanders: Teams Struggling to Slow Down Michael Grabner

Michael Grabner may not be the best known Islander, or the leading scorer, but people around the NHL are starting to take notice of the 23-year-old.

The young talent has nine goals and three assists on the season and is tied for first on the team in plus/minus for players who have played 30 or more games.

Grabner was picked up off of waivers from the Florida Panthers in October and has earned his spot on the Islanders roster. A first-round pick in 2006, Grabner had bounced around the league for a bit before coming to the Islanders.

Although Grabner may not have the hardest or most accurate shot on the team, he has used his speed to create breakaways and has done a solid job at beating the goaltender.

The Islanders team this year is built with many players like Grabner. Guys who you wont see getting very many All-Star votes, but whose effort shines through when they play. The Islanders really seem to have been a groove of late, and that is likely because of this team effort attitude.

Grabner is another strong part of the Islanders young core, and with a bit more development he could take his speed to the danger ...
