When news broke out that the Philadelphia Flyers were interested in acquiring Jamie Langenbrunner from the New Jersey Devils, I have to say I was a bit skeptical. It would have been a real shocker if the Flyers were able to pull off that type of trade. Clubs don't normally trade a player of Langenbrunner's caliber to a rival team, especially one who is at the top of the standings. Jamie Langenbrunner ended up getting shipped to Dallas for a conditional pick. If the Dallas Stars choose to re-sign him, or if they make it past the first round of the playoffs, the Devils get a second round pick, something the Flyers were not able to offer, since they do not have a second round pick in 2011.

At the end of the day, it is a shame that the Philadelphia Flyers were not able to walk away the winner of the Jamie Langenbrunner sweepstakes, but this is not necessarily a bad thing at all. It had been reported that the Flyers offered a third and fifth round pick for Jamie. In losing out on Langenbrunner, the Flyers still have space to make a significant move.
