The Eastern Conference leading Philadelphia Flyers may have stumbled a bit recently, but two straight victories have helped the Flyers pad their lead for the conference's top overall seed.
The Flyers held on for a 3-2 victory Thursday night in Toronto, dealing the Maple Leafs a critical blow to their own playoff hopes. Flyers goalie Brian Boucher made 27 saves while right-winger Claude Giroux scored a goal and added an assist in the Flyers' victory, avenging a loss to Toronto last week in Philadelphia by a similar 3-2 score.
Philadelphia took a 1-0 lead in the first period during a five-minute major penalty to Toronto defenseman Mike Komisarek for shoving a defenseless Daniel Carcillo into the boards behind the Toronto goal. Komisarek's hit from behind led to an ejection from the game.
"It's a 5-minute major -- he cross-checked him in the lower back from behind in a vulnerable position," Toronto coach Ron Wilson said. "Whether the guy's acting or not, he did kind of a wishbone into the boards. We would expect the same thing in return."
