Hockey Canada released a list of 37 candidates for this year’s WJC team on Monday. Hamilton, a quintessential two-way blueliner with the OHL’s Niagara Ice Dogs, will be joined by two fellow budding Bruins and current OHL adversaries in goalie Malcolm Subban and forward Anthony Camara.
Hamilton kept a perfect point-per-game pace in last year’s 20-and-under World Championship, helping the Canadians to a bronze medal. In the tournament finale, his secondary assist on Tanner Pearson’s power-play icebreaker set up the eventual winner in a 4-0 victory over Finland.
Subban, who succeeded Hamilton as Boston’s freshest first-round draft choice last spring, previously represented Canada in the 18-and-under version of the IIHF World Championship. He put in five appearances and won three decisions, retaining a 2.72 goals-against average and .927 save percentage in that span.
