As someone who is just coming into his own as an avid hockey fan, I must admit that I am not nuanced in what makes a good hockey team. I know about shifts, but don’t quite get why specific players are important within them.
I understand the positions, but don’t know which ones have the right kind of impact for the right kind of plays.
And I understand that Alex Ovechkin is great, but I don’t know why beyond the cliches that come on during SportsCenter highlights.
And because I don’t know any of this, I’m not afraid to ask...particularly since the Washington Capitals are the closest thing we have to a championship contender in this region.
So what do I need to know to be a true Washington Capitals fan, and not just someone who ebbs and flows with their wins and losses? I appreciate any and all help.
And by the way, I love the fact that I could ask Ted Leonsis this question and feel confident that he would answer, but I’d much rather get the man-in-the-stands' perspective first.
What Makes the Washington Capitals So Great?
