Dion Waiters is set to become a free agent at the end of the upcoming NBA season unless the Oklahoma City Thunder sign him to an extension before Nov. 2.
According to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, the two parties are hard at work on a new deal.

Waiters is a bit of a polarizing player. Some believe he'll live up to his status as a former fourth overall draft pick, while others view him as more of a liability—especially for a team that has NBA title aspirations.
While the 23-year-old has only had half a season to carve out a niche on the Thunder, Oklahoma City might be better off taking the leap of faith now if general manager Sam Presti is absolutely 100 percent sold on him.
With the salary cap set to increase after this year, there's no telling how much Waiters could earn on the open market.
