Paul Becomes 4th-Fastest Player to Reach 7,000 Assists

Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul recorded the 7,000th assist of his career during the first quarter of Wednesday's 118-108 loss to the Dallas Mavericks, becoming the fourth-fastest player in NBA history to reach the milestone, per ESPN Stats & Info.

Paul hit the mark in his 706th career regular-season game, putting him behind only John Stockton (625 games), Magic Johnson (637) and Oscar Robertson (667).

The 30-year-old point guard got off to a fast start in Wednesday's contest, with eight assists in the first quarter as his Clippers jumped out to a 35-27 lead, per ESPN Stats & Info.

The fifth of those assists, which came on a layup by star forward Blake Griffin, was No. 7,000 of Paul's career.

Despite the fast start, Paul would ultimately have a poor night, finishing with 11 points, 11 assists, one rebound and two turnovers in 35 minutes, making just two of his 11 field-goal attempts along the way.
