The Houston Rockets are off to a disappointing 4-7 start, and they received more unfortunate news Tuesday regarding rookie Sam Dekker's back injury.

Dekker to Miss About Three Months

ESPN's Jeff Goodman said Dekker will have back surgery Friday and confirmed he will be out for approximately three months. The rookie has not appeared in a game since Oct. 30 and only has six total minutes of action on the season. He had been assigned to the D-League earlier in the year.
Other than a sprained left ankle suffered late in October 2014 while at Wisconsin, there haven't been any notable medical issues for Dekker prior to his time in the NBA.
Dekker already faced an uphill battle to compete for playing time in the Association as a rookie. He has established veterans in front of him in Houston who play the 3 in Trevor Ariza and Corey Brewer.
The injury to Dekker will do little to diminish Houston's bid to return to the Western Conference Finals. The Rockets have plenty of depth on the perimeter and should only turn to Dekker if he's ready ...
