Head coach Brad Stevens told reporters Smart is out for "a couple of weeks-plus." He added Smart has a “subluxation of the proximal tibfib joint."
Celtics Not Lacking in Options as Replacement for Injured Smart
This is a difficult blow for the Celtics, as Smart is a key contributor in their rotation. He is a solid scorer who can stretch the floor with his three-point shooting and attack the rim with his quickness.
However, he is most valuable as a tenacious perimeter defender. The Oklahoma State product averaged 1.5 steals per game as a rookie and is versatile enough to guard quick point guards or scoring shooting guards, depending on the opponent.
The fortunate thing for Boston is its overall depth, which will help it survive this setback.
