For the most part, the first quarter of the NHL season has been kind to the Philadelphia Flyers. Heading into tonight’s action in Los Angeles against the Kings, through 17 games, the Flyers have a record of 11-5-1, good enough for third in the Atlantic Division and 11th overall in the NHL standings.
Offensively, the Flyers have been dynamite, averaging 3.53 goals per game (3rd overall), while keeping their opponents at bay, giving up just 2.47 goals per game (7th overall). Both totals represent an improvement on the 2008-09 season totals where the Flyers averaged 3.17 goals per game (5th overall) and 2.83 goals against (16th overall).
