In each NBA playoff series there comes a time when it is apparent which team will emerge victorious, and a two games to none lead to start the series is a pretty good barometer. To be fair, a two game lead doesn't guarantee victory in a series, but the odds of advancing with a two game lead increase significantly, and there are also other factors to consider. The pyschological impact of a two game deficit is sometimes taken for granted, but when a team is able to split the first two games of a series, not only do they seize home court advantage but they gain confidence to. The ability to win one of the first two games as a lower-seed serves as a morale booster, and it gives a team confidence in knowing they can win on the higher-seeded team's home court. The San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, and Los Angeles Lakers are the past three NBA champions and all three managed to win the first two games of their Finals' series.
