Thursday's home opener was intended to mark the beginning of a new era at Madison Square Garden as the New York Knicks hosted the Atlanta Hawks. However, the Hawks' fantastic defense kept the Knicks' offensive efforts at bay, allowing them to walk away with a 112-101 victory.
The Knicks were off to a strong start following a 122-97 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night and were looking to keep the momentum going. Carmelo Anthony had a better offensive performance tonight, leading all scorers with 25 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Robin Lopez also logged in 18 points and four rebounds. Kyle O'Quinn ended with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Rookie Kristaps Porzingis continued to impress tonight with his blossoming grit and aggressiveness. He had the crowd and the bench on their feet with a pretty spin move in transition, finishing it off with a one-handed slam. At the end of the night, he logged 10 points and eight rebounds in the second game of his NBA career.
