Payne To Visit Specialists After Fracturing Foot

Erik Horne of the Oklahoman reported Thursday that Payne, who had just recovered from a separate foot injury, fractured the fifth metatarsal on a drive to the basket in the scrimmage. Horne noted there was no timeline for his return but added recovery is typically six to eight weeks.
Payne's Status Uncertain after Frequent Injury
Royce Young of ESPN.com noted the 22-year-old second-year guard underwent surgery in July to repair a Jones fracture in the same foot. Horne stated the latest ailment is unrelated to that previous procedure, even though it occurred in the same metatarsal.
Payne told Horne earlier in September that he was already making steady progress in his comeback from the prior issue with an eye toward being ready for camp.
