The New York Knicks and their triangle offense have struggled mightily since being instituted at the start of the 2014-15 season by team president Phil Jackson. New York is 43-103 in that span, and its offense has been one of the worst in the league.
Those factors can't be a welcoming sign for free-agent players, especially point guards, who would have to run the triangle.
Former Knick Chauncey Billups spoke with the New York Post's Marc Berman in a phone interview on Sunday about what available point guards could be thinking when looking at the Knicks:
I will tell you this about that triangle. If I’m a top point guard and a free agent, I’m not going to want to be playing in that triangle. A point guard needs more pick-and-roll, more freedom. It’s going to be restrictive to my play. I think that would be a good thing — if they are opening it up a little. It’s the only way to get a point guard.
According to Billups, now isn't the right time to be scaring away point guards with an unsuccessful offense.
