I'll be the first to admit it: When news broke that the Sixers considered Doug Collins the favorite to replace Eddie Jordan as their new coach, I was consumed with an overwhelming feeling of dread. Doug Collins? What is this, 1995 again? Personally, I had been holding out the slight hope that the Sixers would draw their coaching search out before eventually offering the job to Celtics defensive mastermind Tom Thibodeau (then again, given Thibodeau's dominance in the playoffs, he became the hottest head coaching prospect this year before reportedly signing with the Bulls.). Still, as the days passed, and as the Sixers officially hired Collins as their seventh head coach since Larry Brown, I warmed over on the thought of Collins leading the team. He came out firing on all cylinders in his introductory press conference by laying out a specific plan for the Sixers going forward. Collins threw around key words like "toughness," "running," and "passion" like it was 1983 in Philly all over again. Does Collins have the right ideas for the Sixers?
