To have a folk song written about a man trapped on the Beantown’s transit system 50 years ago proves the power of Boston’s legends.
Former Boston Celtic Kendrick Perkins is rapidly reaching the hallowed level of Charlie of the MTA.
Without a nickel in his pocket, Charlie could not pay to step off the trolley car that sped him around Boston. His wife met him daily to throw him a lunch bag, but she never thought to put a nickel in the bag—or maybe she thought, like Danny Ainge, never to save the lost soul.
Kendrick Perkins is now on the media carousel of Boston. He may never get off line, as Boston press now hints that the Bulls cheered when they heard Perk had moved on to become the Okie from Muskogee. The effort to beat the Boston Celtics had grown easier for them.
Celtics were said to be on the verge of a crying jag when their beloved Perk took a hit by the bus driven by Danny Ainge. Their hard working center was sideswiped and broadsided.
You could call it a sucker punch or a Judas kiss. Seven years a Celtic, seven years he thought himself to be half of Eng and Chang with his beloved Rondo.
