Shooting guard Kevin Martin has averaged 20 or more points in six different seasons throughout his career but was on the market after the Minnesota Timberwolves waived him on March 1. That is no longer the case after Saturday's news.
The San Antonio Spurs inked Martin to a new deal, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. Nick Moyle and Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News confirmed the report.
The timing here is important, as Martin is postseason-eligible because Minnesota waived him on March 1 before the midnight deadline.
It also comes as little surprise another team grabbed him so quickly. Stein reported Friday the Spurs weren't the only club interested in Martin's services:
At his best, Martin was a volume scorer who could light it up from deep and change games in a hurry when he got hot. He was quietly one of the league's most dangerous scorers in his prime, and his ability to get to the line and convert at a high clip made him even more valuable.
