LeBron James Draws Technical Foul for Trying to Sub Himself Out of Game

November 21st, 2015 by Kyle Newport Leave a reply »

With his Cleveland Cavaliers up big on the Atlanta Hawks, LeBron James attempted to sub himself out of Saturday's game after a play midway through the third quarter at Quicken Loans Arena.

The only problem with that is the referees never called for a substitution, meaning the Cavaliers were playing four-on-five basketball.

That's against the rules.

Cleveland's Richard Jefferson tried to hurry to check in for James, but he was not able to get into the game before play resumed. As a result, the Cavaliers were assessed a technical foul. Dave McMenamin of ESPN shared the rule that came into play:

James had 19 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in the Cavaliers' 109-97 victory.
