In a pre-emptive move to avoid potential labor unrest down the line, the NBA and the National Basketball Referees Association came to terms on a new deal Saturday.

Report: NBA, Referees Agree in Principle to 7-Year Deal Saturday, Aug. 8 Although it isn't yet official, the NBA reportedly guaranteed itself a happy and well-compensated group of officials Saturday.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the two sides came to terms on a seven-year collective bargaining agreement that will take effect immediately and run through 2022, replacing the final year of the current deal.

Per Wojnarowski, the contract cannot become official until it is ratified Aug. 13. If and when it is, on-court referees and replay officials are expected to receive significant raises in conjunction with the NBA's massive television contract.
