New Jersey Nets vs. Denver Nuggets: Brook Lopez, Nets Drop a Tough One

The New Jersey Nets finished off their road trip at 1-3 as they dropped a heartbreaker to the Denver Nuggets 107-103. The Nets have now lost three straight games and will try to rebound when they head back home.

Carmelo Anthony was almost a Net during the offseason. Tonight he showed that he is still the leader of the Nuggets, scoring 28 points with eight rebounds. He came into the game averaging 24.1 ppg, good for sixth in the NBA.

Though Denver is now 105-24 at the Pepsi Center over the last three seasons, the Nets had several chances to tie the game late but were unable to do so.

Avery Johnson called for “better leadership among the troops” following Friday’s loss to Sacramento. To some extent, Devin Harris and Brook Lopez provided that leadership, but they also failed to come through with the game on the line.

Carmelo started off hot, recording four points and two assists on the Nuggets early 9-2 run. But the Nets followed with a 10-2 run of their own to take the lead aided by eight points by Lopez.
