The New York Knicks came into Quicken Loans Arena on Tuesday night still haunted by their 41-point home loss to the Boston Celtics on Sunday afternoon. They faced the 7-13 Cleveland Cavaliers, but the Cavs had won three of their last four to get on a mini roll.
That role continued as the Cavs smoked the Knicks 106-90. Kyrie Irving played incredible basketball and finished with 37 on the evening along with 11 assists. Carmelo Anthony led New York with 29 points and Amar'e Stoudemire turned in a strong effort with 15 points, two blocks and a steal.
The Knicks looked atrocious in the first quarter and trailed 27-9, but they bounced back with better defense in the second quarter and trimmed Cleveland's lead to 48-45 by halftime.
The first-quarter Knickerbockers returned in the third quarter and Cleveland ran away with the game. The Knicks fall to 5-15 on the season and are the second-worst team in the conference. They will be dealing with questions about a potential coaching change right up until tipoff against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night.
