Today, the Orlando Magic made a trade that will help the team in the long term.
They sent small forward Rashard Lewis to the Washington Wizards for former All-Star Gilbert Arenas. Washington was looking for a buyer for Arenas's large contract, and Orlando was looking to dump Lewis's also. The main reason this trade occurred was an incident last season involving Arenas that everyone should know of and that I shouldn't even mention. Also, Washington drafted John Wall out of Kentucky, signaling the end of the Arenas era.
This wasn't the only blockbuster trade that happened today, there was also another one, again involving the Orlando Magic. Magic sent forward Mikael Pietrus, guard Vince Carter and back-up center Marcin Gortat to the Phoenix Suns for Hedo Turkoglu, Earl Clark, and the star of the trade, Jason Richardson.
Both Richardson and Gilbert Arenas fill Orlando's biggest hole, and both will do it amazingly. Orlando did not have a player who can create their own shot, except for the aging Vince Carter who was involved in the trade for Richardson. Both also add intangibles that will prove extremely important for Orlando.
