The Phoenix Suns announced they have waived wing Sonny Weems. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical initially reported the news.

The 29-year-old averaged 2.5 points, 1.3 assists and 1.1 rebounds in 36 games for the Suns this season.

Weems' time in Phoenix came after a three-year stint oversees following one year with the Denver Nuggets and two with the Toronto Raptors.

The former Arkansas Razorback never caught on with the Suns after signing a two-year, $5.8 million contract in July of last year, per Arizona Sports:

Weems was projected to play a role in the Suns rotation this season, but was never able to recover from a slow start and catch up to emerging rookie Devin Booker.

Guards Ronnie Price and Archie Goodwin have spent time playing ahead of Weems in the rotation, as well as former 10-day contract signings Jordan McRae, Orlando Johnson and Lorenzo Brown.

Weems, who played only about half of Phoenix's games this season, didn't do much to impress other teams that are looking to add depth at the wing. It's possible he tries to catch on with a team back in Europe for next season.
