Multiple media outlets reported Thursday night that Zydrunas Ilgauskas intends to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers later this month.
An article on the web site of The Plain Dealer in Cleveland provided details, later confirmed by sports anchor Al Pawlowski on WKYC-TV in Cleveland.
"It is Zydrunas' desire to return to the Cavaliers if a suitable contract can be agreed upon," agent Herb Rudoy said in an e-mail to reporters. "He has been overwhelmed and deeply touched by the outpouring of support and affection by the fans and by his teammates. He hopes to return to bring a championship to the Cavaliers and to the city of Cleveland."
The 34-year-old center has played his entire career with Cleveland, and is the team's all-time leader in rebounds, blocked shots, and games played. He was traded to Washington on Feb. 17 in a deal that sent Antawn Jamison to Cleveland.
Since securing a contract buyout from the Wizards, Ilgauskas has been free to negotiate with any team. Atlanta, Dallas, and Denver were rumored to be interested.
