Boston Bruins forward Jarome Iginla scored his 550th career goal in the third period of Sunday's 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers. The milestone mark stretched Boston's lead to 4-2, and the 36-year-old winger became just the 26th player in NHL history to score 550 goals.
Iginla also took over sole possession of 26th place on the league's all-time goals list, ending a tie with Ron Francis (549 goals) that lasted for just five days. Iginla netted no. 549 last Tuesday, against the same Panthers team that he faced Sunday night.
Next up on the list are former Bruins star John Bucyk (556 goals) in 25th place and Guy Lafleur (560) in 24th. With just 18 games remaining on the Bruins' 2013-14 schedule, Iginla may have a hard time catching Bucyk this season and will almost certainly need to wait until next year to pass Lafleur.
While he's yet to announce that he'll be back for 2014-15, Iginla has 20 goals and 29 assists in 64 games this season, proving that he's still perfectly capable of handling a major scoring role on a contending team.
