The Calgary Flames today dealt defenseman Ian White and forward Brett Sutter to the Carolina Hurricanes for defenseman Anton Babchuk and right winger Tom Kostopoulos. White who was acquired by the Flames as part of the Dion Phaneuf deal last January with the Maple Leafs, has been underachieving since signing a one year, $2,999,995 deal during the offseason, has been struggling at a -10 and has 6 points in 16 games thus far this season.
Brett Sutter, who obtained headlines, last week, when he was arrested outside a Phoenix nightclub was sent down to the AHL’s Abbottsford Heat on Monday, will be joining his cousin Brandon in the Hurricanes organization.
Anton Babchuk is a 26 year-old defenseman from Kiev, Ukraine, has recorded eight points in 17 games thus far this season, after spending the entire 2009-10 season in the KHL. Tom Kostopoulos is a 31 year-old right winger from Mississauga, Ontario, has record four points in 17 games thus far this season. Kostopoulos has received more than 100 PIM in four of the last five seasons, since becoming a full-time NHLer after the NHL lockout in 2004.
