Rangers prospect, goaltender Chad Johnson , has been added to the Team Canada roster for the Worlds Championship Tournament and is expected to serve as the team’s backup.
Johnson made his NHL debut earlier this year on December 30 against the Philadelphia Flyers after Henrik Lundqvist was pulled from the game. He gave up a goal just 23 seconds into his performance.
Johnson is not an especially highly touted prospect, but it is possible that he could turn into a decent backup for Lundqvist. In 44 games with the Wolf Pack this season Johnson was 24-18-2 with a 2.54 GAA and a 0.911 save percentage.
Johnson was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He was eventually traded to the Rangers about a year ago for the Blueshirts fifth-round draft pick in last year’s draft.
Johnson will join Marc Staal and Michael Del Zotto as part of Canada’s team.
