The Chicago Blackhawks' American Hockey League affiliate in Rockford began their exhibition schedule this week. With the NHL cancelling games through October 24 and the threat of more lost games on the horizon, Chicago's top prospects will be taking center stage with the IceHogs.
Rockford has split their first two preseason contests. After losing 6-1 to the Chicago Wolves Wednesday, the IceHogs scored a 3-2 shootout victory over Milwaukee Thursday at the Harris Bank BMO Center.
Thursday's lineup was filled with players who figure to see top minutes if the NHL lockout continues. Several figured in the victory, rallying after the Admirals took a 2-0 lead in the first 20 minutes.
Marcus Kruger got Rockford on the board 6:23 into the second period, one-timing a shot with assists by Byron Froese and Joe Lavin. Late in the period and on a 5-on-3 power play, Ben Smith knocked in the equalizer with help from Brandon Pirri and Nick Leddy.
