Chicago Blackhawks Make Bold Roster Cuts

The Chicago Blackhawks have made more roster cuts on Friday, and they’re bold.

Igor Makarov, who started training camp on fire, and Kyle Beach, who entered the summer as the Hawks’ top forward prospect, are both headed to Rockford.

The two biggest, and most pleasant surprises of training camp, Nick Leddy and Jeremy Morin, skated with the Hawks on Friday morning and appear to be among the finalists for the roster. Jack Skille, despite suffering an upper body injury on Thursday night, appears to be making this round of cuts.

Makarov started camp as the hot young player, posting a hat trick in the Toronto rookie tournament and skating well. However, he’s disappeared since then and there is too much talent available for Joel Quenneville to choose from to take an inconsistent younger player.

Beach, on the other hand, has been the physical power forward the Hawks had hoped for. But with more mature players like Jake Dowell able to play that role in the NHL, sending Beach to Rockford for more seasoning makes sense.
