After falling behind 2-1 in the second period, the Detroit Red Wings came roaring back in the third, scoring three times to win 4-2 over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night.
Justin Abdelkader found the net twice and Pavel Datsyuk contributed a goal and an assist for the Wings. Netminder Jimmy Howard had a strong game between the pipes, turning away 25 shots for his fourth win of the season.
Despite losing, the Capitals outshot the Red Wings 27-22. Both of Washington's goals came in the second period.
The loss drops Washington to 4-3-2 while Detroit improves to 5-2-2 with the win. The Red Wings return home for a game against the Los Angeles Kings on Friday with Washington heading to Tampa Bay for a bout with the Lightning on Saturday.
