Boston, MA—Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien just announced that Marc Savard has left the team indefinitely to head back to Canada to rest from his latest concussion, sustained the other night in Colorado.
What does this mean for the Bruins? Nothing as of yet. It could mean if the Bruins shut Savard down (long-term injury list) for the rest of the season, they will be able to go after a good player in the salary range of $3M plus against the cap.
Not a bad idea. Let Savard get better or see if he will get better and go get a player who can help the Bruins go deep into the playoffs. This maybe the best assist Savard could give the Bruins this season.
Face facts—he hadn't played a lot in the first half of the season, and when he came back he was just spinning wheels. His line didn't jell the way they wanted it to, and I feel Coach Julien was close to running out of answers when it came to Savard.
Sure, he is a voice in the locker room and when healthy is a top 10 playmaker in the league. But since he isn't healthy, it is time to move on.
This is the Bruins' out. They need to take advantage of this ...
