he Canucks have sent down G Cory Schneider, LW Jeff Tambellini, and Alexandre Bolduc to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL.

They also announced the call up of D Lee Sweatt to start the season.

The Canucks fans have not seen this trick before, even in the Mike Gillis era.

Year 1: Mike Gillis left a lot of room under the salary cap and eventually handed grizzled veteran C Matt Sundin an $8.6 million contract starting Christmas holiday.

Year 2: Mike Gillis dealt with two similar injuries for D Mathieu Schneider and LW Pavol Demitra. The pair started the season on the active roster, and were placed on long-term injured reserve before opening night.

Year 3: Mike Gillis made today's moves, plus traded Shane O'Brien for Ryan Parent and Darcy Hordichuk for Andrew Peters. Very busy start to the year, don't you think?

Although we have no idea what is going on behind the scenes, Laurence Gilman, Mike Gillis's secret weapon, knows his stuff as the Canucks capologist.
