There is now a legitimate threat that the entire 2012-2013 NHL season will be canceled as the NHL and the NHLPA try to work something out on Wednesday, according to Sporting News.
But it's important to note that not only would this be a wasted season, it would rob fans of a chance to see some key veterans for the last time on ice.
You see, some high-profile players were considering retiring after this season. If there is no season, that may be it. No curtain call. No glorious send-off. Nothing.
Here's a look at the veterans who would be most impacted by a lost season.
Teemu Selanne, RW, Anaheim Ducks
The 42-year-old Ducks legend has given fans a lot to enjoy: leading the NHL in goal-scoring three times in his career, earning the honor of First All-Star Team twice and winning the Stanley Cup in 2007.
But when asked by TSN if a canceled season would be the end for Selanne, "The Finnish Flash" said:
