In no particular order, here are the Atlanta Thrashers' three keys to success this season.
Goaltending
Last season the Atlanta Thrashers were 25th in the NHL in goals against per game, averaging over three per game. With the addition of Chris Mason and the continuous development of Ondrej Pavelec, that number should decrease. If it doesn't, don't expect the Thrashers to get too close to a playoff spot.
The New Guys
Twenty percent of the Atlanta Thrashers' current roster were members of the Chicago Blackhawks last season. I think it is safe to say if they don't produce, you shouldn't expect much from the Thrashers this season.
Powerplay
Last season the Thrashers powerplay struggled as they finished 25th in the NHL. Their powerplay was running at only 16.1 percent. With the additions of Dustin Byfuglien, Andrew Ladd, and the fact that Zach Bogosian, Niclas Bergfors, Evander Kane, and Bryan Little are all improving, their powerplay should be much better.
