Washington Capitals left wing Alexander Ovechkin recorded the 72nd, 73rd and 74th playoff points of his career during Monday's 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers, tying and then passing Dale Hunter (72) as the all-time leading playoff scorer in franchise history, per Sportsnet Stats.
The top-seeded Capitals entered Monday's Game 3 in Philadelphia with a commanding 2-0 series lead, having earned 2-0 and 4-1 victories back in Washington to kick things off.
It initially appeared the Flyers might turn things around when left wing Michael Raffl opened the scoring just 57 seconds into Monday's game, but the Capitals struck back less than four minutes later on a goal from center Marcus Johansson.
After a long stretch of scoreless play, Ovechkin tied Hunter's record with a goal midway through the second period, giving his team a 2-1 lead that would only grow.
Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov made it 3-1 early in the third period, and the lead then stretched to 4-1 on a goal by defenseman John Carlson, with Ovechkin picking up an assist to break Hunter's record.
