That didn't take long.
After missing all of Colorado's playoff games due to a concussion sustained at the end of the 2010 regular season, fully healed Peter Mueller is out indefinitely following yet another concussion.
Mueller had originally planned to help battle his recurrent concussion problems by wearing a newly designed helmet by NHL legend Mark Messier, but in a strange twist was not wearing the helmet when he participated in Colorado's 4-2 preseason loss to the Kings on Wednesday.
It goes without saying that this is horrible news for both the Avalanche and Mueller. Colorado just invested in a two-year contract with a very talented player who will likely be out at least a month given this is his third concussion in as many years. Meanwhile, Mueller's career is almost in jeopardy if he at any time for sustains another concussion within in the next year.
The depth Colorado has in players like Brandon Yip, David Jones, Ryan Stoa, and Kevin Porter provide the Avs the ability to overcome Mueller's loss without skipping a beat, but this latest concussion is troubling news both short and long term.
