A pair of Philadelphia Flyers were selected to play for Team Canada in the Vancouver Olympics this coming February. Defenseman Chris Pronger has been chosen as an alternate captain while center Mike Richards made the squad as one of the forwards.
Jeff Carter and Simon Gagne did not make the cut as expected.
With the recent play of the Flyers, several people wondered if Richards played his way off the Olympic roster. However, that wasn't the case as he's the type of player that Canada will need to win the Gold medal this time around.
Canada will have to compete with a much improved United States team, which will be announced on New Years. In order to bring gold home, Team Canada will need some grit, and Richards provides that.
Scott Niedermayer was named captain of Team Canada, Pronger's teammate in Anaheim.
