The surging Montreal Canadiens continue to shock the hockey world in their current spot of first in their division and third overall in the league.

Most of the Habs' current success rests on the team's defence and the goaltending of Carey Price. Price spent the majority of the season last year watching his counterpart Jaroslav Halak get the spotlight and carry his team deep into the playoffs. 

Halak took the Canadiens to the semifinals, where they were then eliminated at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Canadiens' GM & Executive Vice President Pierre Gauthier had an overwhelming decision to make in the summer as to whether he was going to move Halak in his contract year or sign him.

The Canadiens brass made it clear to Price that he was their guy, and they stuck to their word. They traded Halak to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forwards Lars Eller and Ian Schultz. Halak, who lead the Canadiens to their best playoff run in nearly two decades, was on his way to the city of Blues.
