Team Canada Should Look at Mike Fisher

Even as recently as a month ago I would have laughed at the suggestion. Mike Fisher on Team Canada? A longshot at best...

But here we sit, the quarter mark of the NHL schedule and Mike Fisher is beginning to force Steve Yzerman and the Team Canada brass stand up and take notice. If going with the hot hand is gonna mean anything when the selections are made in late December you'd have to think Fisher is going to at least get a look. The team is going to be extremely deep at centre with guys like Sydney Crosby, Ryan Getzlaf, Mike Richards, Joe Thornton, Jonathan Toews, and Steven Stamkos already pushing for spots but where Fisher would be very useful is as a fourth line, two-way guy. Someone who can play the wing if need be but can also take a draw and kill penalties too. I'm a big fan of Shane Doan but it's hard not to at least consider Fisher over the Team Canada veteran. Fisher had a great World Championships and can do the same job a guy like Doan can. Difference is Doan has had a rather ordinary start to the season (6 goals/16 points) while Fisher is a point-per-game guy.
