The Tim Thomas story is a good one. A guy who can't find work in the NHL until multiple injuries to other goaltenders give him a chance goes on to win the Vezina Trophy.
However, there's a reason to believe Thomas' days in Boston are numbered.
Tim Thomas is 35 years old, was one of the last draft picks by the Quebec Nordiques (a team that's been defunct for 16 years), and has seemingly been in a downfall since winning the Vezina in Las Vegas last year.
This year, Thomas is a less-than-stellar 13-15. He's allowed 85 goals this season, after allowing only 114 all of last season. His save percentage is a decent .915.
But trading Thomas to some dumb team will definitely benefit the Bruins in the long run.
Tuukka Rask is ready to inherit full-time goalie privileges right now. Thomas could fetch a good forward (probably not as good as Ilya Kovalchuk, though—stupid New Jersey), or maybe two above average forwards.
After a 10-game losing steak, and nearly blowing a five-goal lead to the Lightning last night, the Bruins definitely need a change of pace, and trading Thomas might just bring the guy who could ignit ...
